'Boredom City' is quite possibly the most Detroit album I've ever heard. What I mean, of course, is that this album, fifteen songs of 'Boredom City Punx', is unequivocally produced, crafted and marketed in Detroit. It spits of working class boredom and lower class frustration. While note traditionally fast, pummeling hardcore like a good amount of Detroit bands, this album is, without a doubt, punk rock from Detroit with a serious fucking groove.

Every song on this album is a well-crafted piece of punk. Many songs have very quotable lyrics, and I believe this is the work of singer Lacy one of the biggest mainstays in Detroit punk rock (he was around during the Negative Approach era with Son of Sam, during the Cold As Life/second wave of Detroit punk with the Hillside Stranglers, and now with Detroit 442). The sound is dubbed 'Boredom City Punx', and it is a bit more unique, with Lacy cranking out some of his best work as a singer, sounding like a deranged Wattie Buchan. Scott #1 (there are two) defined the sound with his riffs and his different guitar sound. Scott #2 puts the rhythm section, together with Bean, into a pulse-pounding, stop-and-go team that allows the guitar and vocals to have a background with which to deliver the good word of Boredom City Punx to any and all listeners. My personal three favorite tracks are Fabric of Society, Worries and Detroit Noise, but every track is worth the price of the album.

This is one of the better albums I've heard lately. Buy this album. Now. It's well worth the minor investment.

DETROIT 442 / FUNERAL MARCH -split EP
First up, we have two tracks straight from Detroit Rock City. Coming from part The DAMNED , a touch of FUNCTIONAL BLACKOUTS and funny enough , a bit of the ol' UK SUBS. It's frantic energetic ,and punk as a bag of glue--throwing more attitude than a gorilla with a machete. Up next, with another two on the door, is Germany's FUNERAL MARCH. banging out a pair of dark punk tracks that have a MISFITS menace mixed with a WIPERS foreboding. It's straight-up ol' school punk done with flare and a keen ear for the hook. Great stuff from both bands; I want to hear more.

DETROIT 442 / FUNERAL MARCH – SPLIT 7”
US / Euro split featuring Detroit punks DETROIT 442 and Germany’s FUNERAL MARCH. More of that wild and unpredictably fucked-up Detroit Noise from DEROIT 442 - think early BUTTHOLE SURFERS mixed with THE WEIRDOS…yeah, great! There aren’t many bands like DETROIT 442 out there…so many bands are too afraid to stray way from a certain set of rules but these guys ain’t got no rules! Dortmund’s FUNERL MARCH play ADOLESCENTS-influenced hardcore punk rock but with a modern edge and I’m digging it big time. I was already a fan of both bands and although sonically different this split works really well and it’s great that this record will help expose each band in the US and Europe.

Nos punks de Detroit sont toujours là et ça fait super plaisir de recevoir leur nouveau projet partagé avec les allemands de Funeral March. Si le premier est plus destroy rock’n’roll et décalé, les allemand coulent plus facilement. Une bonne dose de punk rock hardcore pour l’été car l’album arrive en mai pour Detroit 442 et les deux groupes tournent ensemble en décembre prochain.

Klar, wer zu lange ADOLESCENTS und CIRCLE JERKS hört, aus dem wird entweder nichts oder ein Musiker in einer Punkband. FUNERAL MARCH aus dem Pott haben sich für Letzteres entschieden. Glücklicherweise beschränkt man sich nicht darauf, den Achtziger-Westcoast-Hardcore zu kopieren, sondern lässt fröhlich ein „Best of rotziger Punk“ einfließen.
Von DEAD BOYS über GERMS bis HANOI ROCKS wird alles verquirlt und gut interpretiert. Die beiden neuen Songs sind weder Nummer-1-Hits noch langweilig, sondern schlicht das Resultat, wenn Punk keine Phase, sondern Dauerzustand ist.
Von DETROIT 442 hatte ich bis dato noch nie etwas gehört. Keine Ahnung, wie der Kontakt zu den Amerikanern – richtig, aus Detroit – zustande kam, Sänger Lacy scheint auch gleichzeitig Labelchef zu sein.
Musikalisch geht es jedenfalls ähnlich zur Sache. Die Genregrenzen zerfließen noch etwas mehr, alles klingt noch ausgelassener, vielleicht versoffener, und so machen A- und B-Seite sehr viel Spaß!

On a entre les mains un furieux groupe de Detroit dans le genre punk 77 avec un chant absolument génial et le plus incroyable c'est que cet enregistrement sonne vraiment comme à l'époque. Bon, c'est vrai que les gringos ne sont plus très jeunes mais putain ils ont une mega pêche. Ils ont enregistré l'hiver dernier ce petit bijoux de rock'n'roll qui devrait rester aussi dans les oubliettes malgré ce côté culte qui se dégage de cette formation déboulonnée. Ils seront peut-être en tournée en Europe à la fin de l'année mais sûrement pas en France malheureusement. Il y a un côté grind et chaotic qui semble dormir dans ce groupe et qui n'explose pas sur ce disque mais c'est bien flippant comme sensation. Ils ont des trucs bien trashy punk notamment grâce à certains solos de guitares kitch avec des effets de whoua whoua qui propulse ce chant qui glace le sang tellement les Stooges sont approchés de près. Du punk rock aux textes engagés et qui sonne bien old school comme on n'en fait plus… Impressionnant !!!
