JUST SCREAM
This CD shows a
new team-up between two still pretty unknown bands, SKELETON ARMY from Germany
and HILLSIDE STRANGLERS from Detroit, MI and probably you'd already argued
looking at the sleeve that this is pretty tough shit to handle. SKELETON ARMY
are a blessed addition at a point when, being the Community of Filth pretty much
maimed and alone, Germany can still count on some sauerkraut-eating weirdos. The
10 songs on here are tough examples of dirty rock played with early TURBONEGRO
and late GG ALLIN clearly in mind, gracing themselves of a not-so-neat 8 track
home recording that is still top-notch for the feelings they want to express.
Fans of ANTiSEEN, GG ALLIN and the COS take not, you will read an interview on
these pages pretty soon... the HILLSIDE STRANGLERS are a rockin' combo and
deliver more 11 songs recorded by Jim Diamond at the well known Ghetto Recorders
Studio, pushing the levels to a more traditional punk rock approach and a
bruiser-sound that will remind you of some of the greatest old Midwestern 77
punk bands mixed with the angry and production of today's best rawk'n'roll
acts... they draw from different influences and craft every single song with a
different appeal... definitely worth of attention. I can't decide who's the
winner here, also because this record has born of friendship I think, so I'll
just tell you all to go out and get yourself one.

On a entre les mains un
furieux groupe de Detroit dans le genre punk 77 avec un chant absolument génial
et le plus incroyable c’est que cet enregistrement sonne vraiment comme à
l’époque. Bon, c’est vrai que les gringos ne sont plus très jeunes mais putain
ils ont une mega pêche. Ils ont enregistré l’hiver dernier ce petit bijoux de
rock’n’roll qui devrait rester aussi dans les oubliettes malgré ce côté culte
qui se dégage de cette formation déboulonnée. Ils seront peut-être en tournée en
Europe à la fin de l’année mais sûrement pas en France malheureusement. Il y a
un côté grind et chaotic qui semble dormir dans ce groupe et qui n’explose pas
sur ce disque mais c’est bien flippant comme sensation. Ils ont des trucs bien
trashy punk notamment grâce à certains solos de guitares kitch avec des effets
de whoua whoua qui propulse ce chant qui glace le sang tellement les Stooges
sont approchés de près. Du punk rock aux textes engagés et qui sonne bien old
school comme on n’en fait plus… Impressionnant !!!
